According to the statistics by the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, over 3000 tourists visited the Maldives every day on average in 2021. Dubbed as the World’s Leading Destination in 2020 by the World Travel Awards, Maldives has become a trendy holiday destination.

According to the statistics by the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, over 3000 tourists visited the Maldives every day on average in 2021. Dubbed as the World’s Leading Destination in 2020 by the World Travel Awards, Maldives has become a trendy holiday destination.

The COVID-19 pandemic pushed resorts, guesthouses and other service providers in the Maldives to take extra precautionary steps. When the country reopened its borders in July 2020, tourists starting visiting the island archipelago once again. Then, during the holiday season of the same year, the island nation witnessed numerous celebrities flocking to the destination. The Maldives concluded 2020 with 555,494 tourist arrivals.

In 2021, Maldives already witnessed over 220,000 tourist arrivals. According to the figures from the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, the island archipelago recorded 227,488 tourist arrivals from 1st January to 12th March 2021. Despite the fears of the COVID-19 pandemic, Maldives has ensured travellers can enjoy a safe holiday experience.

Figures indicate 3,204 tourists visited the island nation on average by 12th March 2021. Likewise, tourists are spending an average of 9 days in the Maldives. Statistics further reveal that tourist arrivals during the period (1st January 2021 to 12th March 2021) decreased by 38.7% compared to 2020. Furthermore, tourist arrivals decreased by 40.6% compared to 2019 during this period
